Sometimes unemployed adults and young adults need all the help they can get in finding and keeping a job. To help these individuals plan for success, NEFE collaborated with the National Urban League to develop a three-booklet series.

Titled Planning for Success, the booklet series emphasizes the relationship between steady employment and long-term financial stability. The booklets, and the topics they cover, include:

  • Landing the Job: This booklet focuses on making yourself employable, interviewing, accepting an offer, starting a new job, and decisions and steps involved in changing jobs.
  • Making the Most of Job Benefits. The types and value of benefits, related paperwork, and options to consider if your job does not provide benefits are all discussed.
  • Making Your Paychecks Count. Tips are provided about handling your first paycheck, creating a saving and spending plan, managing financial problems and work, getting out of debt, buying on credit, and establishing long-term goals.

“The National Urban League liked this project so much that some of its staffers are using it themselves to learn about financial issues related to employment,” said Brent Neiser, CFP®, NEFE director of Collaborative Programs.
