GREENWOOD VILLAGE, COLORADO—The board of trustees of the National Endowment for Financial Education (NEFE) has named Jackie Booth, Ph.D., of Orlando, Florida, as vice chair. Booth will serve NEFE as vice chair for one year, effective January 2008, after which she then will assume the role and responsibility as chairwoman of the 16-member board.

“What a great opportunity this is for me to work even more closely with the other trustees and the leadership at NEFE who work so hard to make a difference in the financial aspects of American lives,” said Booth following her appointment.

Booth joined the NEFE Board of Trustees in 2004. During 2008, she will provide direction on matters related to the National Endowment’s programs, investments, audit, compensation and executive functions.

Booth currently serves as president of Paradox Learning Systems, Inc., a Florida-based curriculum development firm that produces educational materials for teachers, students, parents and the general public. She co-founded Paradox Learning Systems in 1997. The company’s programs have been used in over 33,000 classrooms and by more than one million students across the United States. Previously, Booth was associate director of the Stavros Center for Free Enterprise and Economic Education at the University of South Florida, which establishes partnerships within the corporate community and local school districts in support of economic education for students from kindergarten through college.

"Like all of the professionals on the NEFE Board of Trustees, Dr. Booth brings a strong commitment to the field of education and financial literacy, and has demonstrated tremendous passion in ensuring the financial well-being of all members of the American public,” said Ted Beck, president and CEO of the Colorado-based National Endowment for Financial Education. “The foundation is fortunate to have an extraordinary leadership assembly in place to continue to guide us in fulfilling our mission.”

Booth is an award-winning instructor with an extensive background in education, having taught English for a number of years to sixth- through eighth-grade students, as well as adults. She is the author of numerous publications and curricula on topics such as youth tobacco prevention education, economic education, literature and technology. She also has written and produced television series, and is frequently tapped as a presenter of various educational topics across the United States. Booth received her doctorate from the University of South Florida, her master’s degree from Southern Illinois University, and her bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University in Utah.

“The consequences of financial illiteracy are obvious, but the solutions are complex,” Booth said. “NEFE’s mission to provide financial education to students, adults, families and special populations captivates my interest on so many levels that I can’t imagine a more demanding yet rewarding challenge.”
