As part of the two organizations’ ongoing efforts to encourage radio, television and online news outlets to report on personal finance issues, three winners have been recognized for their outstanding work.

Parenti is a broadcast correspondent at MarketWatch Radio Network, where she provides custom live reports for top stations in Chicago, Boston and Denver. She also is an adjunct professor at Georgetown University, teaching courses in journalism and storytelling. Parenti recently was honored with Dateline Awards from the Society of Professional Journalists.

Cipriano is an Emmy Award-nominated business reporter and producer at KUSA-TV in Denver. She was the 2012 first place winner for best general reporting from the Colorado Associated Press Broadcasters Association. Before Denver, Cipriano worked at KRDO-TV in Colorado Springs.

“Now in our third year, response to the RTDNA/NEFE Excellence in Personal Finance Reporting Awards continues to exceed our expectations,” says Ted Beck, president and CEO of NEFE. “There is excellent reporting that focuses on consumer finance issues and we are very pleased to partner with RTDNA to showcase the best of that work.”

Each winner receives a $1,000 prize and complimentary registration and travel accommodations to the 2014 Excellence in Journalism convention—the national gathering of RTDNA and the Society of Professional Journalists in Nashville, Tenn. The RTDNA/NEFE Excellence in Personal Finance Reporting Award is presented in connection with the Money Matters financial reporting resource, a tool developed through a partnership between NEFE and RTDNA to help journalists better cover stories about financial issues.
