DENVER—The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) has inducted Alexander Gonzalez, Ph.D., president of California State University, Sacramento, and board chairman of the National Endowment for Financial Education (NEFE) into HACU’s Hall of Champions at its 28th annual conference in Denver.

Gonzalez was honored alongside Agnes Mojica, chancellor of Inter American University of Puerto Rico, San Germán Campus. “HACU is honored to recognize Chancellor Agnes Mojica and President Alexander Gonzalez, two remarkable individuals who have devoted their careers to enhancing opportunities for students and have been tireless champions for Hispanic higher education success,” said Antonio R. Flores, HACU president and CEO, at the induction ceremony.

Academic and community leaders, college and university presidents and CEOs, government officials, corporate and business leaders, and college student leaders and scholars witnessed the honor in conjunction with days of programming focused on improving higher education for Hispanic students.

“I am honored to have been selected for this award from HACU. It’s gratifying to be recognized for making a positive difference,” said Gonzalez, who served on HACU’s board of directors for more than seven years, two years as chair. “This award isn’t just about one person,” he continued. “It reflects the importance of working together toward shared goals for the common good.”

Gonzalez has served as president of California State University, Sacramento since 2003, and has announced his retirement at the end of the 2014-2015 school year. Previously, he served more than three decades in the CSU system as professor and education leader.
