NEW YORK—Representatives from the President’s Advisory Council on Financial Capability, including Ted Beck, president and CEO of the National Endowment for Financial Education, gathered at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE Euronext) Tuesday, April 10, to mark Financial Literacy Week with the ringing of The Opening BellSM.

The Council was created by President Obama to assist the American people in understanding financial matters and making informed financial decisions, thereby contributing to financial stability. The group is composed of nongovernment representatives with relevant backgrounds, such as financial services, consumer protection, financial access and education. The Council suggests ways to coordinate and maximize the effectiveness of existing private and public sector efforts and identifies new approaches to increase financial capability through education and financial access.

On January 19, the Council presented its interim report to the president. The Council is next scheduled to meet on July 16, 2012. Click here for more information about the Council.
