NEFE Announces Two New Board Members

Maged, Plummer Appointed to Leadership Assembly

DENVER—The National Endowment for Financial Education (NEFE) has tapped two new members to join its 13-member Board of Trustees. Gregory Maged, co-founder and CEO of Bicycle Financial, Inc. in Bethesda, Md.; and Kevin Plummer, head of Tampa Preparatory School in Tampa, Fla., each will serve an initial three-year term with the financial education advisory group.

“Mr. Maged and Mr. Plummer bring exceptional talent and leadership to our group of dedicated trustees,” says Ted Beck, president and CEO of the Denver-based NEFE. “Both appointees will be valuable in our mission of empowering Americans to achieve their financial goals.”

The NEFE Board of Trustees also announces that Michael Bedke, J.D., partner with DLA Piper, LLP in Tampa, Fla., will serve as chair for 2016; and Mary (Merrell) Bailey, managing partner of Your Caring Law Firm, a Florida-based firm practicing in the areas of probate, wills, trusts and planning, will serve as vice chair.

Gregory Maged
Maged is co-founder and CEO of Bicycle Financial, an online Registered Investment Advisor providing life stage-based financial planning through employers and financial institutions. Prior to Bicycle, he was an executive with Charles Schwab where he served as chief-of-staff for Chuck Schwab, the company’s founder.

“When I was at Schwab, I witnessed how financially lost people can become. It hit me right in the gut seeing people of a certain age knowing they’ll never catch up to where they ‘should’ be,” says Maged. “Similar to the work NEFE does, helping people understand what to do—even the simple steps—is a profound part of my professional and personal life.

Earlier in his career, Maged was associate principal with McKinsey & Company in San Francisco and Houston, focusing his work on the technology and communications sectors. He started his career working for Nippon Telegraph & Telephone, Japan’s national telephone company, while living in Tokyo. Maged received his BA from Stanford University and MBA from The Wharton School.

Kevin Plummer
Plummer became the seventh Head of Tampa Preparatory School in July 2007. He and his wife Jennifer moved from the Philadelphia area where he was Middle School Head at Chestnut Hill Academy. Plummer is a 1989 graduate of Colby College where he was named a Lacrosse-All American. He was awarded the highly competitive and prestigious Klingenstein Fellowship at the Teachers College of Columbia University where he received a Master of Education Administration in 1999.

“Everything that NEFE does is so dramatic—it causes so much positive change,” says Plummer. “The programs that NEFE has and the efforts they engage in are exactly what people need to enhance their financial capability.”

Plummer is very involved in the Tampa community where he serves on the Executive Steering Committee of the Friends of the Riverwalk, is a board member for Creative Tampa Bay, and is a trustee of the Boys and Girls Club. Recently he was elected to the board of the Florida Council of Independent Schools and was named as a board member of the Secondary School Admission Test Board (SSATB). Plummer also serves on the Board of Hospital Directors for the Moffitt Cancer Center. Previously he served as president of the Bay Area Association of Independent Schools.
