Senior Director of Education, Research and Strategic Impact

Job Summary

The Senior Director of Education, Research and Strategic Impact is responsible for the philanthropic, research, evaluation, web, collegiate, and adult consumer education initiatives for the foundation.

Required Responsibilities:

  • Lead education initiatives, including program development, setting benchmark objectives, and evaluating outcomes for research and online education programs that engage approximately one million unique learners per year;
  • Oversee five web-based educational programs, including the establishment of priorities and growth within Smart About Money, Financial Workshop Kits, CashCourse, My Retirement Paycheck, and Financial Education Evaluation Toolkit;
  • Initiate and build strategic partnerships with other funders, higher education institutions, and top-level researchers who have the potential of growing the financial education and capability research field;
  • Lead the education work team and Web program strategy planning;
  • Oversee national financial literacy teacher training initiative, including raising financial support for implementation and managing ongoing research of the on initiative’s impact on confidence, practice, and behavior of educators & students;
  • Design and host national colloquia, forums, and think tanks on financial literacy topics;
  • Speak at national conferences;
  • Participate on national coalitions, boards, and workgroups that seek to advance the nation’s financial capability;
  • Develop strategy for benchmarking and measuring national goals;
  • Oversee and execute dissemination plans for NEFE-funded research;
  • Manage and foster intellectual capital of NEFE research and educational initiatives;
  • Talk with media about research and various financial literacy topics;
  • Develop and manage budgets for several initiatives;
  • Staying current on educational best practice;
  • Manage external and internal evaluations of NEFE programs;
  • Oversee NEFE Fellows Program; and
  • Serves as part of the senior management team (reporting to the CEO).


Preferred Education and Experience

  • PhD in education, economics or relevant field.
  • 10+ years in research, project development and program management.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge of research, both qualitative and quantitative, especially within an educational environment;
  • Ability to review the quality of research proposals and weigh them against the needs of the field of financial education;
  • Effective public speaker;
  • Ability to explain complex research for the practical and comprehensible implementation by educators and practitioners;
  • Understanding of philanthropy and grant-making, including reporting requirements and contracts;
  • Strategic thinker with long term vision and the ability to create short term educational and growth objectives;
  • Budget management skills;
  • Effective personnel manager;
  • Attention to detail;
  • Verbal and written communication skills;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Proven record of establishing and maintaining effective relationships with key stakeholders;
  • Adaptable to a changing environment;
  • A self-starter who can extract cooperation of peers, senior-level staff and external partners;
  • Proficiency in leading and managing complex projects;
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills; and
  • Ability to meet deadlines.

Supervisory Duties or Responsibilities

  • Supervise a staff of seven program and web staff.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers and smartphones. This position requires the selected candidate to reside in or relocate to the Greater Denver area.


Ability to travel frequently (up to 25%)
