This Privacy Policy describes how National Endowment for Financial Education (“NEFE”, “we”, or “us”) collects, uses, protects, and discloses personal information as defined by various laws (“Personal Information”) when you visit or use our websites, https://www.nefe.org (“NEFE.org”) and any other sites on which this Privacy Policy is posted (collectively, our “Websites”) or when you otherwise interact with us. By using our Websites, you are consenting to NEFE’s Privacy Policy. Please review it carefully.
1. COLLECTION OF PERSONAL INFORMATION
- Websites. Whenever you visit our Websites, we will collect some Personal Information from you automatically simply by you visiting and navigating through the Website. We also collect Personal Information from you voluntarily when you submit Personal Information using a form, such as the “Contact NEFE” page or use any of the other interactive portions of our Websites, including our email lists and newsletters. Through our Websites, we will collect Personal Information that may identify you and/or your activity.
- Other Interactions. We may also collect Personal Information from you if you contact us by phone, email, or otherwise outside of our Websites. The type of information collected will vary depending on the context in which you interact with NEFE.

Listed below are details about the categories of Personal Information we collect in different contexts:
- Internet Activity and Device Data: When you visit our Websites, we may collect data regarding your computer or other device, or your network used to access our Websites. This may include but is not limited to, the date and time of your visit to our Websites; webpages visited; links clicked on the website; IP address, MAC Address, SSIDs, application ID/AdID/IDFA; the domain server from which the Website was accessed; type of computer or device, including device ID; type of Web browser and Web browser ID; your operating system;information collected via cookies and other technologies as described below; or other information related to usage of our Websites, e.g., HTTP requests and other information about your visit to, use of and navigation of the site. We may also collect general location data derived from your IP address. In addition, we may be able to determine which of our email communications you have opened.
- Personal Identifiers & Contact Information, including your name, e-mail address, information that you provide to us through forms on the Website, including but not limited to the “Contact Us” form, e.g., mailing address, phone number, and any other Personal Information you voluntarily disclose to us on the Websites or when you otherwise interact with us via email, phone, when you register for a conference, etc.
- Transaction and Payment Data. We will collect Personal Information regarding any transactions you enter into with NEFE, such as if you register for one of our conferences, if you enter into a license for our Toolkit, if you request that we send you specific materials or information, or if you otherwise enter into a transaction with NEFE. If there is a payment associated with the transaction (such as paying a registration fee for a conference) we or our service providers will also collect the payment data, such as credit card details.
- Other information
Some areas of our Websites may require the input of information or data in order to use certain specific features or functions. Some services offered on a Website may require that you agree to additional terms and conditions, and we may collect and retain information relating to this to enable and control the access to and use of these services. In addition, the types of Personal Information we may collect when you interact with NEFE may vary depending on the context of your interaction. For example, if you contact us for a customer service question related to our website, the information we would collect will be different from the information you may provide to us if you want to learn more about our educational resources.
3. SOURCES FROM WHICH WE COLLECT YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION
We may receive your Personal Information directly from you, from your device, or from third parties, in various contexts as described below. These sources include:
- You, the consumer, when you visit our Websites and voluntarily submit information through forms on the Websites (including cookies and other tracking technologies), when you inquire about any of the products and/or services NEFE offers, if you register for a conference, when you call or email us, and when you otherwise interact with NEFE directly.
- Other customers and visitors, to the extent you interact with them or when they observe you as part of the interactive learning systems contained in our Websites.
- Social media platforms and any other third-party platforms on which NEFE maintains a presence, to the extent that you voluntarily submit information to us through these methods.
- When you submit information through interactive learning systems contained in our Websites, such as surveys, quizzes, and other materials created by instructors in connection with services offered by our Toolkit as further described below.
- From our third-party partners and service providers, who may assist us by providing services in connection with conference registration, payment processing, various functionality of our Websites, or other matters.
- Various publicly available sources, including sources which provide contact information for public officials and their staff.
4.PARTIES TO WHOM WE MAY DISCLOSE YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION
When necessary in connection with the various services they provide to NEFE, we may disclose Personal Information to our service providers. We engage various services providers for different purposes, and our service providers may include marketing support vendors, as well as vendors that support the hosting, managing, and maintenance of our Websites, as well as data analytics vendors, and our managed service providers including third-party security and risk management providers. We may also disclose Personal Information to federal, state, local, or other regulatory authorities when served with a valid subpoena or lawful court order.
5. WE MAY COLLECT OR USE YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION FOR THE FOLLOWING PURPOSES
We may use the Personal Information that you choose to submit through our Websites, and the information that we collect about you through cookies for the following purposes:
- To fulfill or meet the purpose for which you provided the information, including to respond to your inquiries, providing information; or services you have requested (including if you have signed up for our email lists, requested information from us, registered for our conferences, or otherwise engaged with NEFE or our services).
- To provide you with information we believe would be of interest to you, whether marketing information, financial education information, information relating to our third party partners, or information relating to areas in which you have engaged with us in the past. This may occasionally include sending emails to people on the list of third party partners or collaborators of NEFE.
- To understand the interests and demographics of our Website visitors, conference attendees, and others who are interested in NEFE and our services.
- To detect and respond to security incidents and to otherwise improve the security of our Websites and other services.
- To debug, identify, and repair errors that impair existing intended functionality of our Websites.
- To protect against malicious or illegal activity, including the prevention of identity theft and fraud, and to prosecute those responsible.
- For research, development, and analysis in connection with the maintenance, protection and improvement of our services, materials, and information we provide as part of NEFE's mission, including to understand how our services and materials are used, for customer service purposes, for further development of our materials, conferences, or other services, and to track use of our services;
- To provide, maintain, and improve our Websites, including to create and maintain user accounts, monitor the usage of our Websites, enable third parties or agents to help us maintain and operate the Websites, analyze how users use the Websites, and understand the demographics of our Website's visitors; and
- To comply with our legal obligations, for the establishment and defense of legal claims, where we must comply with requests from government or law enforcement officials, and as may be required to meet national security or law enforcement requirements or prevent illegal activity, or on certain public interest grounds
We may share Personal Information with third party service providers in the United States and outside of the United States for these purposes, but we do not authorize such providers to use Personal Information for any other purpose. Third party service providers may also have direct access to Personal Information in the course of providing services to us.
6. USE OF COOKIES AND OTHER TECHNOLOGIES
Cookies are small files that a website may transfer to a user’s computer that reside there for either the duration of the browsing session (session cookies) or on a permanent (until deleted) basis (persistent cookies) that may be used to identify a user, a user;s machine, or a user's behavior. We make use of cookies and similar technologies under the following circumstances and for the following reasons:
- Provide you with services available through the Websites and to enable you to use some of their features
- Authenticate users and prevent fraudulent use of user accounts
- Identify if users have accepted the use of cookies and similar technologies when engaging with the Websites or other NEFE content (including emails)
- Receive analytics data, such as to compile data about traffic, content of interest, location of our users, and how users use the Websites, including as needed to offer a better website experience, and for our general business purposes
- Understand and save visitor account information and preferences for future visits, such as remembering your login details, to avoid you having to re-enter your preferences every time you use the Websites
- Track your browsing habits to enable us to show advertising which is more likely to be of interest to you, including advertising by third parties on our Websites
We may also allow our service providers to view, edit, or set their own cookies or similar technologies on our Websites. We, or our third-party providers, may be able to use these technologies to identify you across platforms, devices, sites, and services. Third parties have their own privacy policies and their processing is not subject to this Privacy Policy. You can prevent saving of cookies (disable and delete them) by changing your browser settings accordingly at any time. Do Not Track (DNT) is a privacy preference that users can set if they do not want web services to collect information about their online activity. However, there is currently no universal standard for sending and receiving DNT signals. Due to this lack of universal standard, it would be impossible for us to promise that we comply with all DNT standards.
7. RETENTION OF YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION
We will retain and use your Personal Information for a reasonable amount of time or as long as necessary to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.
8. USER CHOICE REGARDING COLLECTION, USE AND DISTRIBUTION OF PERSONAL INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATIONS
You may choose to limit the Personal Information you provide to us during your interactions with NEFE, however, certain information may be required for specific purposes (such as to register for a conference). If you limit the information you make available to us when you visit our Websites, you may be able to access and use some features of the Websites; however, you may not be able to access and use portions of the Websites or features or functions that require your Personal Information. 9. DISCLOSURE OF YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION
We do not share your Personal Information with any third party except as described in this Privacy Policy, unless required to do so by law or government agency, for the purpose of defending or prosecuting legal claims, to protect our rights or property, or with service providers/vendors that process, collect or store this information for our benefit and within the scope of the services they provide to us. We do not sell your Personal Information to third parties for their marketing purposes.
10. PROTECTION OF YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION
We use reasonable and appropriate measures to safeguard the Personal Information you submit to us through our Websites, or that we have otherwise received about you. However, you understand and agree that no transmission of information over the Internet can be guaranteed to be totally secure, and we do not guarantee the security of any Personal Information in our possession.
11. CHILDREN UNDER 13 YEARS OLD
Our Websites are not intended for children under 13 years of age. No one under age 13 may provide any Personal Information on our Websites. We do not knowingly collect Personal Information from children under 13. If you are under 13, do not use or provide any Personal Information to us. Our Toolkit provides educational resources such as assessments and surveys that may be adapted and customized by individual users. The adapted and customized resources and any information and data collected or generated by the user may be stored in a database and accessed by that user. We may use this information for our internal analysis, operation of the site and other purposes set forth in this policy. We do not seek any sensitive Personal Information from users of our Toolkit or in connection with services we provide through our Toolkit. Accordingly, please do not post or otherwise provide any; sensitive Personal Information, such as medical information, social security number, racial or ethnic origin, religious or philosophical beliefs, or union membership, etc., when you use our Toolkit. USER-PROVIDED INFORMATION
We may make forums, message boards, social media and news groups available to you or otherwise allow you to provide or post information or content on our Websites.
