Join us throughout October for a series of webinars on K-12 financial education graduation requirement legislation. Throughout the series, we will discuss the current status of requirements around the country, as well as next steps in the process, especially in the form of implementation.

2025 Legislative Review

Summary:

Members of NEFE’s Policy team will discuss NEFE’s 2025 Legislative Review, which explored the four states (Kentucky, Colorado, Texas and Delaware) that passed K-12 financial education requirement legislation in 2025, as well as provided updates on the states currently in the implementation phase.

NEFE’s Policy team will be joined by John Pelletier, director of Champlain College’s Center for Financial Literacy, an organization known nationally for its research, advocacy and middle & high school educator training efforts in the area of financial literacy.


Financial Education Policy Implementation Part 1

Summary:

NEFE has developed a series of policy papers on implementation strategies for states that have passed or are considering passing a financial education graduation requirement. This webinar will focus on two implementation topics related to classroom delivery of financial education: Teacher Training and Curriculum. The session will include discussion on challenges in both areas, examples of solutions from across the country, and key considerations for state officials to best support teachers in effective delivery of financial education.

Joel Chrisler, director of teacher engagement and support at the Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy, is a lifelong educator and brings that experience to national programming, supporting teachers through initiatives such as Reality Check and Check Your School.

Miladys Garcia is special population program supervisor for the Financial Education Public-Private Partnership, where she advances financial education for foster youth, justice-impacted youth, multilingual learners and other underserved students.

Summary:

NEFE has developed a series of policy papers on implementation strategies for states that have passed or are considering passing a financial education graduation requirement. This webinar will focus on two implementation topics regarding infrastructure and improvement: Partnerships and Program Evaluation. The session will include discussion on challenges faced during implementation, examples of creative solutions from states that have implemented graduation requirements, and key considerations for state officials and private sector partners to best support the initial rollout and evolution of state financial education programming.

Joining the webinar is Jennifer Davidson, president of the Nebraska Council on Economic Education and an associate professor of practice in economics at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She develops financial literacy programs, conducts community outreach and fosters partnerships across Nebraska and beyond.
