Distinction Recognizes Best Practices, Diversity, Inclusion in Personal Finance Education

DENVER—The National Endowment for Financial Education® (NEFE®) is pleased to be recognized as recipient of the 2021 “Setting the Standard” Award from the Association for Financial Counseling & Planning Education® (AFCPE®). The award acknowledges organizations that believe in—and value—the highest standards in best practices, ethical behavior, diverse and inclusive communities, personal finance education, career advancement, information sharing, professionalism, and rigorous certification.

“Receiving the Setting the Standard Award offers validation that we are successfully elevating all of the work being accomplished in financial education with the goal of helping all achieve greater financial well-being,” says Billy Hensley, Ph.D., president and CEO of NEFE. “It’s humbling to accept this award from AFCPE, an organization that we admire, respect and look to for guidance. This recognition saying our work matters and is helping set a standard for our discipline is one of the most rewarding things I have been told during my career.”

The AFCPE awards were presented virtually during the AFCPE Research and Training Symposium on November 17, 2021.

“This year we are proud to recognize NEFE for their longtime support of—and partnership with—AFCPE. In addition to the important work they have done to elevate research informed practice, over the last two years they have also committed to providing AFC® certification scholarships for people of color. NEFE’s work embodies AFCPE’s mission and vision, to ensure that all people, regardless of income or background, have the opportunity to achieve lasting financial well-being,” says Rebecca Wiggins, AFCPE executive director. “NEFE’s generosity is helping to build capacity directly within communities, especially ones that are often underserved or overlooked.”
