Madelyn Smith

Manager, Research

Madelyn Smith is NEFE’s manager of Research, where she performs analyses to inform NEFE’s future polls, internal research and policy work. She supports the organization’s research efforts by creating survey instruments, analyzing the data and developing innovative ways to report the findings, based on topic and audience.

Prior to joining NEFE, Madelyn was a consultant for an investment firm that helped underserved people secure their financial futures. She was able to experience first-hand the financial limitations clients had, how to alleviate these financial burdens, and through this, strengthened her passion for financial education. This experience, in addition to her undergraduate research focusing on intergenerational economic mobility, has prepared Madelyn for her role at NEFE.

Madelyn is a first-generation college student, graduating with honors from Bucknell University and earning her bachelor’s degree in mathematical economics with a statistical concentration. Her academic interests have always centered around bridging the wealth gap, economic justice, and the philosophy of ethics and morals. In her free time, you will likely find Madelyn outside. She enjoys climbing, hiking, canyoneering, backpacking, paddleboarding and skiing, and is always looking for new ways to enjoy the beautiful landscapes Colorado has to offer.
