Financial Education Mandates 2022

In the 2022 Financial Education Mandates survey, NEFE and AmeriSpeak sought to understand public sentiment regarding the requirement of personal finance instruction in high schools. The results reveal overwhelming support: 88% of U.S. adults say states should mandate a semester- or year-long financial education course as a graduation requirement, and 80% wish they had been required to take one themselves. Beyond broad support, this data reinforces demand for K-12 financial literacy laws, curriculum standards, and equitable access to effective financial education across all communities. Optional insights include which personal finance topics adults believe are most important to teach (such as budgeting, credit, saving, and investing) and demographic trends in support of mandates. Download a PDF of our survey summary below, and see our personal finance and financial literacy polls.
