Listening, Reflection Is Key to Our Nation’s Healing

Throughout these difficult days we have somberly witnessed the outrage, sorrow and torment within our fragmented and unequal society. The anger on display is justified, but complacency is not. For generations, our country’s attempts to halt prejudice against Black people and to build inclusivity have fundamentally failed. We must do better and shouldn’t settle for any ambition less than equity for all.

Our hearts go out to those who have been discriminated against, ignored, and victimized with violence, hate and bigotry. We are taking this moment to listen and reflect on our own shortcomings and how we can be more intentional in our role of overcoming prejudice. This is not just about our organization’s mission, but about what is right and just. We stand in solidarity with every person of color in every community across our nation. We vehemently oppose racism, violence, discrimination and intolerance in any form as it is harmful to the well-being of our nation. Now, more than ever, we need changes to combat systemic injustice and inequality. We must unite to silence those who attempt to mute the voices that must be heard.

NEFE values equity and inclusion, but is making a greater commitment to evolve by investing in new communities, particularly among organizations who support diverse and underserved populations. This spirit of unity and collaboration is necessary as we work together toward real solutions. We will be steadfast in championing change and supporting those who take positive action. We must heal together. It’s the only hope for a better future.
